This pony was based on Van Gogh's masterpiece by the same name. She is a Styling sized pony, meaning she is 9 inches tall. She won first place in the MLPArena's 2007 Custom Contest in her category.
I was very inspired to do this pony. The question posed was: "What does the Arena mean to you?" I'll just C & P from my entry...
"When I joined the Arena, I did it out of love for all things My Little Pony. However, it wasn't long until I made my way into the customs forum. Something inside me that I had long forgotten started to stir while browsing the gorgeous customs: my inner artist! Long ago, I had earned extra money in college painting glass pieces, canvasses, bottles, etc. to sell on campus. However, in the routine of day-to-day life, my creative side had sort of gotten lost in the shuffle. I felt stagnant and stifled. When I saw what people were able to do with ponies, my creative wheels began turning! I found myself browsing paints & paintbrushes, clay & tools, and airbrushes! I started to feel that excitement and awesome creative energy that I hadn't felt in so long. It moved me. That's what the Arena means to me: Art & Creativity. It moved me to do something I love, and provided me with inspiration and support. In fact, I'm inspired every time I log on. Not only am I inspired to create customs, I have found that I love restoring ponies. Giving them back their former glory is like polishing a rough rock into a shiny gem! I would never have learned to restore them if I hadn't joined the Arena, and my childhood ponies would still be in rough, rough shape. I am so grateful, as are they. ^_^ Yet another creative outlet I've discovered is that I really enjoy photography! Styling and posing my herd and photo-ing them makes me really happy, and seems to have had a positive effect on my RL photo-taking abilities, as well. To be worthy of the title "What the Arena Means to Me", I chose to use a piece that inspires me like no other: Van Gogh's Starry Night. It has such movement and striking features. I could stare at it for hours. In fact, in the making of this custom I have, and it has grown even more beautiful to me now than it was before. Here is my entry... TAF Styling Starry Night."
This is one of those rare customs that simply takes my breath away every time I look at it. The details are flawless and really make wonderful use of the Styling Pony's large size. Every paint stroke is deliberate, and the G1-style eyes are clean and clear. The hair is a perfect complement, and I adore the story behind her, as well!

I absolutely adore this custom you have no idea. I don't think I have a friend who I haven't told and shown this custom to because she is that amazing.
As much as I love the painting I think I love the Pony version better lol. I am still kicking myself for not bidding on her.
She's so lovely, you did a great job on this. I love the braided hair over the ear. Starry Night is one of my favorite paintings. I'm quite inspired to make a custom MLP of my own now.
Wow, thanks so much, midori! ^_^ I had a hard time shipping her off to her new owner. But good news! I'm going to get to see her again at the ponyfair this summer!
Thanks! They were sold in stores as Styling Ponies. Styling Rarity was the base for this one, but there are many other styling ponies available as well.
